A medicinal chemist by training, Dr. Ortuzar holds degrees from the University of Durham (MChem) and the London School of Pharmacy (PhD), and she undertook postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Brian Blagg at the University of Kansas (USA). The focus of her research, both during her doctoral studies and postdoctoral position, was on the identification of anticancer agents derived from natural products able to target cancerous cells, either through DNA intercalation or by targeting upregulated proteins (Hsp90).

Since joining Wiley in 2008, Dr. Ortuzar has held numerous positions across the Research business: she spent her first eight years at Wiley in the Germany-based chemistry editorial team as a professional editor: Dr. Ortuzar is the former Editor-in-Chief of ChemMedChem and was responsible for the launch of ChemistryOpen and ChemistrySelect. She later moved to Hoboken to lead a team of journal publishers managing titles across both the life and physical sciences in Wiley’s proprietary journal portfolio.

Since 2019, Dr. Ortuzar has held a leadership role in the Research Product/Publishing division, and she currently leads a cross-functional team devoted to operational efficiency and publishing excellence.
